Essay / Early religious traditions: Islam vs. Hinduism
Yet the sacred writings of each religion are discrete and have no connection with each other. The variations between the sacred texts and expected behaviors and guidelines of Islam and Hinduism are important for students to learn because the procedures and texts deal with the daily lives of Muslims and Hindus. Identifying the rules of a religious system and the source of these guidelines provides an understanding of the individual's underlying culture. A primarily Hindu or Muslim community will primarily adhere to the norms and regulations of the religious doctrines of that religion. The daily behaviors expected of the individual will flow from the teachings of their sacred and divine text. Muslims must pray and worship Allah five times a day, while Hindus have no set guideline regarding their daily behavior. Understanding differences in behaviors and daily practices makes students more aware of the fundamentals of a religious community. To gain more knowledge and appreciation of Islam and Hinduism, one must finally understand who each religious system considers to be its own people.
