  • Essay / Effects of Alcohol on the Brain - 1301

Effects of Alcohol on the BrainAlcohol is something that people use to help multiply different things and some studies have shown that alcohol can help to protect our body against cardiovascular diseases. Alcohol has side effects on our health and our environment and can cause violence, vehicle accidents and even suicide. Alcohol has an effect on people that many social drinkers may not realize. Many people typically have tried alcohol by age 13, and high school students consume more of the wine coolers sold in the United States and drink more than a billion beers a year. To understand the effects of alcohol, it starts with the brain. It's about why people feel the need to drink and drive. The way the brain functions under the influence of alcohol has always fascinated me. Drinking and driving is one of the most important decisions that alcohol can lead to. The National Public Service Research Institute (NHTSA) conducted a study of 600 people who admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol. They described in detail the decisions they made before driving impaired, such as whether to participate in a drinking party, how to get there, how much to drink, and how to get home. Respondents revealed more than 2,000 individual decisions that led to alcohol-impaired driving. The decisions were then divided into several categories as shown in the attached graph. Little is known about what causes people to continue drinking and driving. But as research shows, people think about how they will get home before they drink. It is after having already drunk that they decide to get behind the wheel. Not only is someone driving under the influence... middle of paper ...... some of these things are exercising, eating blueberries, taking antidepressant medications and limiting your calorie intake. As research grows, we'll see more and more studies showing ways to keep our brains healthy. People don't think about how dangerous it is to drink. They don't think about the damage to their brains or the effects of alcohol. The question of how alcohol affects the brain has now been answered. If consumed in moderation, alcohol will not damage or kill brain cells. However, several years of alcohol abuse cause neurological damage (Bjork). Further research on this topic will inform many, as alcohol consumption has become overrated and too many people are putting themselves at risk. Every day, someone new becomes an alcoholic. What better way to help stop it than to do research to help promote and warn people of the long term damage.?
