    All About Eve is a 1950s American drama about a woman named Eve Harrington who finds her way into the life of Margo Channing, a Broadway star. The implied meaning of the film is the plot of Eve making her way into the light of glory. The explicit meaning of the film, however, is to reveal people's obsession with fame, ambition and stopping at nothing to achieve it. My viewer expects that the film will not interest me, because older films tire me out, especially if they are in black and white. However, I was surprised that I actually enjoyed watching this movie and was very impressed by it. Part of analyzing film is being able to understand and empathize with the intentions of the film. This film could be misinterpreted because people might believe that it is trying to expose the truth about life in the theater. However, the movie All About Eve is really about obsession and the desire for fame – at any cost. This theme provides significant insight into the human condition and is cultivated through genre, a brilliant script, casting, costumes, directorial style and direction, cinematography, camera angles and sound effects. Production Technologies and Systems All About Eve is a 138-minute film and has an aspect ratio of 1.33.1. Story Types and Genre This is a narrative film and the genre is drama. Genre gives us a standard for analyzing film. In comparison to other American drama films of the 1950s, All About Eve performed very well and was nominated for numerous Academy Awards. Drama films feature realistic characters dealing with emotional problems. Real life issues and problems are iconographic of the drama genre because it's something the audience can relate to... middle of paper ... it's not theirs. When he finally says his name, the camera cuts to a long shot to show everyone clapping and reporters and photographers jostling. There's another close-up of Eve before she goes to collect her prize, then the film freezes. The freeze frame is right before she picks up the prize, allowing the story to start from the beginning up to that point. The director also decided to include a "single take" technique, which was when Karen was sitting on her couch by the fireplace, planning her shot for Margo. Karen has her back to the camera and the voiceover reveals her personal thoughts. Sound Effects The sound effects used in All About Eve are used to illustrate the climax and drama of the film to create the mood for the audience. Sound is often exaggerated in dramatic films so that the audience can hear it, understand it and know what it feels like..
