Dudley LeavittDudley Leavitt was born on August 31, 1830 in Hartley, Canada. His parents were Jeremiah Leavitt II and his mother was Sarah Sturtevant. Dudley was the fourth son of all his siblings. The Leavitts were Christians, but Dudley's family converted to the Mormon religion. Joseph Smith gave a copy of the Book of Mormon to a guy in their town. After the guy read the book, the Leavitt family read it together every night. “We believed it without preaching,” said Jeremiah, Dudley’s father. The Leavitt family was soon converted and decided that they should go to “Zion” with the rest of the pioneers. They took two chariots and began their journey to “Zion.” It took them a few years to reach Nauvoo, but they finally did. Along the way, Dudley and Louisa's parents were baptized in Kirtland, Ohio. They lived in Nauvoo, but were driven out by mobs, along with the rest of the church. Dudley's father died when he was sixteen. Dudley's family struggled to survive when winter came. They tried to make money to make the rest....
