    Okonkwo is the main character in the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. Okonkwo is an individual who has many different personalities that are portrayed in different situations. He can be a kind and welcoming individual but also an abusive and harmful individual. Before returning to Umofia, where the missionaries had invaded, Okonkwo had grown up resenting his father's laziness, devoting his time to proving that he was much better than his father. That he was more respectable and more masculine. These were qualities that Okonkwo's father lacked. Upon arriving in Umofia, Okonkwo becomes more passive than he has ever been. While observing with sadness and sorrow the arrival of the missionaries, he can do nothing about it. The missionaries had transformed Okonkwo into a completely different individual. Change it for the worse. Okonkwo was not at all happy with the arrival of the missionaries. The missionaries changed Okonkwo's way of thinking and the way he presented himself. In response to Enoch's crime of unmasking an egwugwu, Okonkwo and the other chief of Umofia launch an attack by destroying the missionaries' church. Okonkwo had other intentions and had advised multiple violent actions, even going so far as to kill the missionaries. However, the group ended up burning down their church. As Okonkwo said: “He knew he was a fierce fighter, but that year it was enough to break a lion's heart. » (p. 20) Okonkwo followed his own advice because he fought for what he believed. in and for what he knew to be false. The missionaries had changed Okonkwo's outlook on life. He was no longer the gentle, loving, caring individual he was when he returned. By having a role model like his father to show him what not to do in life, it influenced him and had a great impact on his life. Arriving in Umofia, he met the missionaries. The missionaries changed and impacted his life as well. They showed him his attitude and how to care less about individuals. Okonkwo has seen many difficult times in his life and endured a lot. Overall, Okonkwo was a very strong character. He stayed strong as long as he could until he couldn't fight for himself anymore and ended it all..
