    Most people in society don't easily understand who we think we are, but they may have a preconceived idea of ​​who they think we are. “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is a phrase commonly preached by parents and teachers during our development. Unfortunately, that doesn't really seem to stick with most of us. The natural tendency to already understand who someone is before they even speak is really what needs to change. Society as a whole needs to consider that people come from different countries, backgrounds and class levels. These artists in the exhibition I am curating move away from home and place their nationality in a different context. This allows them to see who they are more clearly and explore it. Certainly, no one can understand everything on their own, but with their artistic practice, they are close to understanding it. We are complex human beings with deep and vast histories and these days we are all very different from each other. No one can look at another person anymore and be on the verge of having it all figured out. Although the advantage of identity is that it is a fixed point; something that everyone has and that everyone can think about. Sure, the person we think we are may adapt a little as we get older, but above all, we are still the same person inside throughout our lives. There are many different ways to think about identity; by class, race, gender, politics, sport, by association, or as something more obscure and loosely categorized. Young adults have many ways of thinking about their identity and it is usually based on musical style and taste. These are classifications that rely primarily on the surface of who a person actually is. Leaving the gallery after viewing Hello My Name Is, I hope the viewer will approach meeting new people in a new way. Hopefully, they will be more open and aware of the fact that whoever new person they meet next will have a very deep and complex story that constitutes their identity. On top of that, we hope they start to question their own identity more and eventually try to find an answer. It may take years to truly understand our full identity, but those who have a good sense will also be more open to the deeper identities of other people in their lives..
