  • Essay / Analysis of flight patterns by Sherman Alexie - 1345

Yet he had no desire to abandon his Indian culture. I wonder if William feels a sense of regret for the way he thinks about his family at the end of the story. “Flight Patterns” shows a repetitive impression of the patterns William goes through each time he takes flight. For someone who loves the excitement and feeling of interest, he has a monotonous pattern every time he travels for business. He wanted everything and he got everything: the good and the bad. Alexie's story unfolds through many feelings as he explains his desires, his sexism, his sympathy when William feels victimized by his race, and the reader's confusion as I try to understand if he is truly sincere or not. No matter how hard he tries to wear a mask to cover and conceal his thoughts and feelings, Williams' insecurities are evident and manifest throughout Alexie's life.
