Ashley is a typical young woman. She encompasses a large group of friends and gets pretty reasonable grades. She seems to be together. No one realizes what she has to endure to stay that way. She tries to reconcile studies, work and sport. She feels perpetually overwhelmed because she feels she doesn't have time. Finally, she collapses. She stops trying in class, equalizes her work and joins the volleyball team. Huge amounts of stress on a young person will lead them down a destructive path. Unfortunately, this problem happens daily. Some teens are great at managing their time, while others just can't handle that much on their plate. There are many different causes of stress and even more ways in which it will affect the person. Some causes of stress may include, but are not limited to: expectations of those who matter most, family problems, social problems and educational attainment, extracurricular activities and work. The consequences of stress include symptoms such as psychological, emotional, physical and behavioral characteristics. To begin with, high expectations from family, friends, and academics, besides family problems, are two of the most common causes of stress among adolescents. Let's start with the issue of high expectations. Some parents may not understand that putting undue pressure on a teenager to be perfect will hurt their self-esteem. The result is a stress called “hyperstress that occurs when an individual is pushed beyond what he or she can handle” (“Teen Stress-Types”). Parents should avoid setting unrealistic expectations. For example, A's for several children may not be easily obtained, instead they should decide to attempt A's and B's with nothing... in the middle of a sheet... this will lead to more problems serious beyond stress, but does not help manage stress. A teenager might start hanging out with the wrong crowd, which could go against their values and beliefs. Stress can change someone, especially a young person. Overall, the causes of stress are high expectations, problems within the family, social problems and lack of ability to manage time. The consequences of stress include symptoms such as psychological, emotional, physical and behavioral problems. Teenagers will learn about stress triggers and what warning signs to look out for if they are stressed. Getting someone to admit that they are stressed isn't always easy. Once they find out what's causing the stress, it's simple and easy. This person will dispose of their can or participate in a stress-relieving activity. So take a deep breath and just relax!
