I always got a low grade, below D, when I took a writing test because I couldn't make my essay longer and clearer. It's extremely difficult for me to hold a pen or pencil to write something when the ideas were in my mind, but I couldn't get them out of my head and onto paper. Aware of my problems, Ms. Ho said that reading was the best solution to develop my writing and literacy, so she guided me on how to read effectively and use reading to become a better writer. I knew how to get a general idea of a paragraph or an essay, and I could eventually focus on the details. I realized it was similar to writing; at first I needed to generate the topic sentence of a paragraph and then I could address a particular situation in my writing. Additionally, another lesson I learned from reading was the representation of ideas, as my writing was a compilation of what I read and mixed into a project in my own way. New vocabularies and collocations from reading any type of text have been integrated into my writing effectively and contextually thanks to Ms. Ho's reading skills and help. Even now, when I am about to start a project, I spend most of my time reading articles and textbooks for general ideas, and I will write the topic sentence for each body paragraph before completing the
