    Christopher Columbus was an explorer who became interested in sea travel from an early age. Columbus made four expeditions between 1492 and 1504. On his first voyage, recorded in “From the Letter to Luis de Santangel Concerning the First Voyage,” he explains how he discovered places that had never been discovered. Throughout his travels, he experienced many disappointments and disasters, but he also enjoyed many benefits. Columbus began his journey via the Canary Islands and India, where he discovered many islands. Any island founded by the fleet, from the Canary Islands to the Indies, would be considered a discovery, for which Columbus took all the credit. He demonstrates his affiliation throughout his letter, for example, he refers to his fleet's achievements in the first person, stating: "I have found very many islands", "I have taken possession of them for Their Highnesses » and “To each one I gave a new name” (Columbus 35). In each of these lines, the author demonstrates how egocentric it is to appropriate all the discovered islands. Additionally, this image may represent Columbus as a European explorer and how he takes back land from indigenous peoples.
