  • Essay / Social determinants and their impact on public health

Module 1 Written assignmentPart 1: In most societies, there are variations in the levels of wealth, material possessions, power and authority among individuals. These variables are typically related to occupation, race, and diversity in access to things like education and health care. All these resources impact individual status in society and participate in the classification of individuals into social classes. It is difficult to identify a precise social class, because it is made up of two fundamental aspects. The objective aspect concerns occupation, race, age and other hard facts; while the subjective aspect describes each person's values, behaviors and lifestyle. Americans assume that health care is the key to good health, but there is little evidence for this belief. There is always something beyond medical care. There is ample evidence that the way people live, learn, work and play has a greater impact on health. There are also many factors called "social determinants of health" that affect the health of Americans at home, in work environments, and in communities. These social determinants constitute barriers to better health. By overcoming these social determinants and adopting healthy lifestyle habits, the well-being of the general population will only improve. Location is often overlooked in population health analysis, even though it plays a major role in the well-being of a community. . Differences in mortality, morbidity and life expectancy vary considerably both within and between countries. Zip codes may be more important than genetic codes; school records may be more revealing than medical records; time spent at work may be more relevant than time spent at the doctor...... middle of paper...... It is the responsibility of the community to organize and trigger a community response federal government. In addition, the implementation of education on healthy lifestyles in schools allows young people to adopt good habits. For example, teaching students the process of becoming a good mother will enable future mothers to build healthy families. Focusing on youth is a great way to ensure a bright future. The tricky part is that once the action is undertaken, it must be maintained. This means that the population of the community must value and appreciate the various operations underway, as well as the support of the community leaders themselves. As Sir Michael Marmot intuitively pointed out: “health inequalities are not necessary...we know how to create the right conditions, but it is the responsibility of the global community to decide whether this is a priority for us. ».”
