    The Bracero program initiated in 1942 was an agreement between the United States and Mexico. Sanchez writes: “North America imported thousands of Mexican peasants to work in North American agriculture under temporary contracts. California became the primary employer of braceros, as they were called, and the strawberry industry depended heavily on them.” This agreement was the first to allow Mexican immigrants to dominate the labor portion of the agricultural industry. However, due to the exploitative nature of the Bracero program, the program ended in 1962 due to pressure from newly trained workers.
