Students commonly claim that they will not use their smartphones during class simply to be allowed permission to possess the phone on school grounds; however, investigations have shown that this claim is a lie. Students tend not to follow instructions such as keeping phones turned off or if the phone should be turned on for emergencies only, it is necessary for smart phones to be put on silent mode.
