The responsibility of taking care of one's health is both important and rewarding. There were times when I doubted myself thinking about the magnitude of my responsibilities, but this was generally followed but simple but rewarding incidents reassured me that I was on the right track. path and that I had what it took to be a good doctor. One of the incidents was the case of an older man who presented to the hospital with an ischemic stroke. When I meet with him the next morning, he seems upset that his blood pressure is high and not under control, feeling neglected because he is not receiving proper blood pressure medication. I took the time to explain to him that we didn't want to lower his blood pressure quickly after his ischemic stroke to preserve his brain perfusion. He immediately calmed down and appreciated the explanation. I had the opportunity to follow him for the remainder of his hospital stay. The day he was discharged, he turned to me and said, “I know you will make a great doctor, I see that sparkle in your eyes.” It was rewarding and reassuring to see how one can build a relationship with a patient and give them a reason to trust me through communication and compassion. I believe that communication and establishing a climate of trust with the patient can have a considerable positive impact on the progress of the diagnosis, treatment and
