This article will describe the tactical abilities and leadership of Hannibal Barca and how the Carthaginians ultimately succumbed to the Romans. Hannibal was the commander of the Carthaginians while Scipio led the Roman army. Hannibal was an exemplary military commander and is considered one of the most intelligent in the history of the Carthaginian army. "Barca" was a nickname given to Hamilcar Barca, Hannibal's father, which was passed down to Hannibal and meant "lightning" (Gabriel). Scipio was also an exceptional military commander with impressive skills acquired during his long period of military service. He had won many very crucial battles for the Romans.
