The Ontario school system devotes a large portion of the high school curriculum to preparing students for university. Ontario secondary schools offer students many courses that will help prepare students who decide to pursue post-secondary education. However, Ontario's school system does not prepare them for the most important aspect of university: stress. Ontario's school system does not prepare students for any of the upcoming stresses that will be the number one factor in their success or failure at university. Ontario's school system does not prepare students for the stress of living away from home. In high school, every time a student has a problem, the school calls the parents to resolve the problem. High schools also hold parent-teacher conferences in which parents and teachers discuss students' problems without their presence. Parents are alerted as soon as their son or daughter encounters a problem. The constant involvement of parents results in pupils not being able to solve their own problems. Due to the Ontario school system's protocol of parents being involved at all times, students are unprepared for the stress of having to deal with their own issues at university. Students are not prepared for the stress that comes from the college workload when they leave high school. In high school, students are assigned a major project, then it takes weeks before they are assigned another. Teachers give students weeks or even months to prepare for an important assignment. High school teachers also organize tests or projects in other classes. When students arrive at college, they are assigned many important assignments in different courses at once and have very little time to complete them. Due to Ontario's school system, students are not prepared for the stress of the university workload. Ontario's school system does not prepare students for the stress of not having the support of a teacher at all times. In high school, there is always a teacher present to help each student at all times. Whenever a student encounters a problem, they know they can ask their teacher for help. At the university level, classes can have more than two hundred students compared to 30 students in high school classes. Teachers do not have enough time to address the problems of each of their students.
