Essay / Is foster care really what we think?
Family placement, is it really what we think? What is foster care? Foster care is a parish/group home in which minors are placed. They are placed in the care of what is called a caregiver or “foster parent.” The placement of this minor is generally organized by form of government. Simply put, foster care is a service that helps homeless children find a home with loving, suitable parents. According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, “foster care is a temporary living arrangement for abused, neglected, and dependent children who need a safe place to live when their parents or another loved one cannot care for them. » Foster care is meant to be an interim step for children waiting to be adopted into a safe, permanent home. Then the children are placed in a home where an adult over the age of 21 cares for them until their family problems are resolved or until the child is adopted. (“Foster care”)For a large majority of the population, foster care is something none of us ever have to experience. Most people don't even know what effect this can have on a child's well-being. Foster care is meant to be temporary, as stated previously, children in foster care can get stuck in the system, they are stuck in a cycle where flaws in the system can affect the children's lives. Many children may suffer long-term emotional and physical effects from being placed in foster families where treatment from caregivers or the environment was poorly distributed. Many children...... middle of paper ......f the system. The Bible says: “You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them and listen to their cry, defending the orphans and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals may never again strike terror. » (Psalm 10:17, 18 NIV) “Children.” American Research Institutes.
