    In the short story “A Hanging” by George Orwell, an execution is about to take place in Burma. A man who committed an unspeakable crime is about to receive the ultimate punishment of death. The story describes in detail his short walk to the gallows where he will face death. Everyone in the prison camp knows what is going to happen and everyone has a dark feeling in their hearts. The prison director wants the death to take place quickly so that the day can proceed normally. As a young magistrate watches the painful march, he notices the prisoner walking around a puddle. He then realizes that the prisoner is still human. “This man is not dying, he is just as alive as we are,” he said. After the execution, the men all share a drink of laughter, with the body hanging only a few meters away. In this story, the men were brought together by the death of a prisoner. They are used to the fact that someone dies every day because of their hands and they continue with their lives. There is a moment where they share some sympathy with the prisoner but that doesn't stop them from doing their job. The murders...
