  • Essay / Emotion Management Review: ROTC Training - 770

IntroductionThroughout my life, I have been surrounded by the military lifestyle. It all started when my father served in the military for over 17 years, until my brother's experience in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC), which eventually led him to join the army. When it came time for me to go to college, I thought I would finally break away from the military; however, I found myself instantly interacting with ROTC members. I have always been fascinated by the camaraderie that military personnel have, but I have always wondered if that camaraderie and their attitudes toward each other and themselves changed when they participated in physical training. This research paper is guided by the following question: How do ROTC members manage their emotions during physical training? As part of this research proposal, I will have a literature review section in which I will review previous research on emotion management, emotional labor, and shame in order to relate it to my research question. In a methods section, I will then explain what type of method I will use and why I will use it to collect data and answer my research question. Finally, I will explain whether my question was answered as well as what my limitations were when conducting this research. Finally, I will indicate what future research can be done on this topic to improve my results. Literature Review In order to answer my research question, I will use the dramaturgical perspective. This perspective will prove useful to answer my research question because I will be interested in the management of emotions, which is a term from dramaturgy. The dramaturgical perspective explains society as if we are all part of a ...... middle of paper ...... amount of information. Works Cited Goffman, Erving. “The presentation of oneself”.
