  • Essay / The Daily Five, by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser

However, my teacher does not follow every part of The Daily Five. The omission of certain parts of this teaching strategy made me read this book to understand why my mentor teacher would omit certain parts of the learning strategy and that the learning would still benefit the student. For example, my mentor teacher does not follow the word study portion of the Daily Five because he believes that this portion does not allow students to connect to a real-life situation, but instead memorizes meaningless words. The word study portion of the Daily Five allows students to explore spelling patterns and frequently used words to improve their vocabulary and increase their writing.
