  • Essay / My life was not worth dying - 1439

My father was a brilliant electrician with an electrician's license in his pocket. My sister Daisy had her own agricultural agency. Coming from a Hispanic background, receiving recognition for your work was very difficult. You were always judged for your background. Social class, education, and race were very important in determining whether or not you got the job. From a young age, I always knew I wanted a career in fashion. I have always been very passionate about fashion and fascinated by its enormous impact on people's daily lives. However, I was not a talented draftsman, so becoming a designer was out of the question. When I came to UTSA, I knew I wanted to study a subject that would open many doors for me in the fashion world. I chose marketing because I wanted to become the marketing director of a major fashion magazine. This job gave me great perks, like looking through the closets of the magazine's fashion department, meeting designers, sitting front row at fashion shows, and traveling the world. Getting my dream job wasn't glamorous at all and it wasn't easy, I had to work hard every day. All my tears and sweat paid off in the end, but because my job didn't feel like work, it was a pleasure to have such an amazing experience.
