HOMOSEXUALITY AS DEVIANCE IN THE NIGERIAN PERSPECTIVE “Homosexuality” is basically the romantic and sexual attraction between specifically male same-sex individuals. Female homosexuality is often referred to as lesbian; the nickname "gay" is frequently used as a general name for "homosexual" and "lesbian" or for "homosexuality". Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, nd Web. March 7, 2014. . This behavior was approved, encouraged, tolerated or prohibited depending on the time and culture. This article discusses homosexuality as a form of deviant behavior in Nigeria. In doing so, the article will examine the nature of homosexuality, its causes and even the consequences of this particular behavior for those who engage in it as well as for Nigerian society as a whole. The document also seeks to outline all previous attempts that have been used to combat homosexuality, including their successes and failures. Finally, the paper also examines the extent of homosexuality in Nigeria and gives suggestions on how to combat this behavior more effectively. The aim of this article was to discuss homosexuality from the Nigerian perspective. I described the nature of homosexuality as a deviant behavior, why it is. considered deviant, the cause of this behavior using examples, as well as the consequences of this behavior, attempts used to address, including successes and failures, the extent of homosexuality in society. Nigerian and a preferable approach to the issue of homosexuality considered deviant. Personally, I believe that every country has the right to make its own laws and punish its violators equally. However, homosexuality should not only be considered a crime but should be studied as an object and Nigeria would then achieve the common goal of promoting stability. not only within society, less discriminatory social interaction.
