  • Essay / Famous Egyptian Pharaoh Tut - 838

One of the most famous Egyptian pharaohs was Tutankhaten, better known as King Tut. Tutankhaten is best known for his tomb discovered by Howard Carter. Egyptologists are still trying to learn more about this fascinating king. Akhenaten IV was a very unique pharaoh. He moved his entire kingdom to a completely different place and changed his religion. He was also the father of King Tut. There is currently debate over the identity of Tut's mother. Some scientists say it was Nefertiti while others say it was Akhenaten's sister. Recent DNA testing has led scientists to believe that Nefertiti was not his mother, but that the woman scientists call the "Young Lady" was his mother. These DNA tests also showed that Pharaoh Amenhotep III and his wife Tiye were the grandparents of Tutankhaten. When Tut was only eight years old, he married his half-sister Ankhesenpaaten. DNA testing also showed that the two unborn babies buried in King Tut's tomb were his two stillborn daughters. Scientists believe family breeding may have been a factor in the two stillborn daughters and Tut's health problems. Tutankhaten is an interesting name, one that you certainly wouldn't see nowadays. Tutankhamun's father, Akhenaten, named him Tutankhamun, meaning "Living Image of Aten." A few years after his father's death, Tut changed his wife's name and his own. He changed his name to Tutankhamun and that of his wife to Ankhesenamun. Scientists say it was to show their praise to the god Amon. His second name adds to an even longer list of names that King Tut possesses. He was called King Tut, Tutankhaten, The Boy King, The Boy King of Egypt, The Boy Pharaoh and Tutankhaton. The children of the pharaohs led lavish lives full of luxury. ...... middle of paper ...... November 4, 1922 after years of extensive research. It was one of the only tombs discovered that was virtually intact. The tomb itself was smaller, probably intended for a nobleman due to his quick and unexpected death. Tut was buried there instead. The tomb contained over 5,000 items packed around the sarcophagus, Carter noticed and wrote "it had obviously been bumped, whatever the risk of damage." The 5,000 items ranged from furniture, weapons, 130 canes and a bronze razor to the Book of Life written on the walls of the tomb. King Tut's tomb was obviously rushed and rushed. Could it be rushed because King Tut was assassinated? Overall, King Tut is a mystery to us. We still don't know how he died or why his grave was so rushed. He is most famous for his intact tomb, but there is still so much to learn about him.
