In the past, stories have been concocted from deep within the minds of writers, describing what they know and what could be . However, it seems that there are always victims because of the harsh words thrown around the world. “A Wagner Matinee” is no exception because of the reference to Nebraska and its occupants. Nebraskans believed that Cather, the author, was intentionally insulting them, but Cather claimed it was a tribute to the pioneer way of life. I would say that the story is really a tribute to the pioneer way of life through three main ideas of the story: Aunt Georgiana's sacrifice, the way Clark lived as a child, and Aunt Georgiana's survival in West. Aunt Georgiana played the piano but had to give up her love of music to cook and clean for her family and workers when she moved west. Clark, the narrator of this story, remembers his aunt telling him, "Don't love him so well, Clark, or they might take him away from you." Oh!
