Essay / Pro-Choice: The Pros and Cons of Abortion - 1127
Wade. Roe was a single, pregnant woman whose pregnancy was the result of rape and wanted to terminate her pregnancy, which was not legal in the state of Texas. Roe won the case on the grounds that her right to privacy, the Fourteenth Amendment clause, had been violated, and abortion was eventually legalized. Even though countless abortions have been performed since then, there are still many and the debate over whether it should be legalized is still hotly debated. Pro-life advocates believe that if a woman aborts, she is killing an innocent life, which constitutes an act of murder. (Hamilton, 2004) No matter what stage of pregnancy the child is at, he or she should always be considered a human being. When a woman has an abortion, she ends the life of a child who could potentially make a contribution to society and takes away their right to life. Studies also indicate that abortion leads to health problems for women, such as infertility, and an increase in future miscarriages and breast.
