It is important to mention that a welfare state is: government intervention which aims to create equitable economic and living conditions among citizens. The government provides all physical, social, and material needs, rather than people obtaining them themselves. There is a redistribution of wealth by taxing the middle and upper classes which aims to help the most disadvantaged with multiple and different social programs. In contrast, a pure socialist system is one where a population collectively owns and controls all means of production which ultimately are distributed proportionally. However, a socialist society does not engage in the accumulation of profits the way a welfare state does in providing social programs. The welfare state has engaged in social welfare programs that have led to the general conclusion that a welfare state combines socialist beliefs to better improve the economy and ensure an adequate standard of living.
