  • Essay / Pompeii: Causes and Effects of Mount Vesuvius - 707

Now the time period of this terrible event is 79 AD in Naples Italy. It was at the time of the rages of the Roman Empire. The city that the eruption was famous for covering was Pompeii. This city was a resort town, very rich people came from all over to visit this very luxurious place. According to the article “Pompeii: Omens of Disaster,” it explains that there were signs of earthquakes and volcanic activity in 63 AD. » The city had already been damaged even before the eruption occurred. This should have told people that something very bad is coming. Just before the quarterquake occurred, many buildings were under repair due to seismic activity from Mount Vesuvius. There, many people believed that earthquakes were the gods fighting beneath the mountains that cause seismic activity, according to the article "Pompeii: Omens of Disaster." To me, I don't understand why the Romans thought this, so they were missing a very important thought that should have been looked into more about what was actually happening at the time. Then again, back then there weren't really people who could tell you if a volcano was going to erupt, but nonetheless, you shouldn't always think the best when earthquakes happen, buildings are damaged, smoke rises from the mount.
