Americans have become uncomfortable with the idea of producing large quantities of food to feed their population. As a result, they are unable to cope with the workload and harsh working environment that may have to be endured to provide food for the nation. Timmerman explains how “unemployed Americans who took the job lasted less than two weeks…[they] lacked the physical stamina and mental strength to do the job” (Timmerman 209). If the United States relied solely on its own workers, the country would likely starve due to lack of motivation and skills. Timmerman further explains that even if their occupation is dangerous, for example lobster fishing in Nicaragua, workers will continue to do their job because of the large amount of money it can bring in. (Timmerman 181) A person risking their life to earn decent money shows a willingness that American workers may lack. The United States may have lost this dynamic when it became comfortable relying on and helping other countries. It has become difficult for America to accomplish tasks that other countries are more accustomed to. Emerson says, “do your work and you will grow stronger,” but this is not necessarily always true. He says to rely only on yourself and don't rely on anyone else. It's okay to ask for help in situations that may not be a strong point. Likewise, I have
