Summary We live in a modern society that rejects certain individuals whose body shape or size does not match the archetypal ideologies, values and beliefs of our modern world. This report explores how manipulative media persuades preteens and teens that there is only one healthy, acceptable body type. This particular society has accepted the body type as the glorified “thin,” which goes hand in hand with the weight-centered paradigm. However, HAES studies strongly disagree and challenge these lauded views and beliefs, as "proponents of HAES generally do not believe that the same narrow range of weight or BMI is the healthiest possible for each individual » (W Wayt Gibbs 2005). After analyzing and deconstructing the hugely popular television series The Biggest Loser, final recommendations were made regarding how "popular media influences adolescents' weight management behaviors and choices" as well as "how these contribute to they to the quality of life and life expectancy”.Introduction2.1 ContextIt is generally accepted in today's society that the propagation of the media can exert excessive pressure on young people. The common negative stigma associated with the terms “weight”, “overweight”, “obesity” and their perceived equivalence with a health condition is thought to result in negative or risky decisions and behaviors.
