Recently we have seen cases of law enforcement abusing their power as an officer among the people and their society. In David Dante Troutt (2014), he seems to argue that people are turning to police abuse. If their goal is to serve and protect, then why is nothing being done when they are no longer protecting or serving their communities? Knowing the laws and your own rights could play a crucial role in developing a peaceful society. Racism is not the only factor since culture also plays a role in society, according to David Dante Troutt (2014). It is an emotional challenge for African Americans to face discrimination from their society and local law enforcement, because they worry about their own safety and that of their families ( Chaney and Robertson, 2013). In this day and age, we are so adapted to being around different races and ethnicities, but African Americans still face racial discrimination (Chandy and Robertson, 2013).
