Contrast between Adam and Eve and the old man and the old womanThe Indian myth of Chewing Blackbones titled "Old Man and Old Woman" is so similar to the well-known creation story of "Adam and Eve" from the Christian Bible that some readers consider them essentially identical. This is not the case, and careful examination reveals that the two stories differ in very important respects. Indian myth “Old man and old woman” begins like this: “A long, long time ago, there were only two people in the world: the old man and the old woman” (538). At the beginning of the Christian creation story, the two characters, Adam and Eve, are also the only two people in the world. The feature I found that shows a difference between the beginnings of the stories is the presence of God in “Adam and Eve.” I noticed that in the Indian version of Chewing Blackbones, there is no third party. Indian myth does not explain how the Old Man and the Old Woman were created; it simply indicates that there were two people in the world, the old man and the old woman.
