Essay / Importance of Eragon in the school curriculum - 1725
Foreshadowing is used a lot in Eragon. Brom is a character who is a storyteller and whenever the traders come and there is a party, he tells stories. Well, the main character Eragon is here and he tries to convince Brom to give more information about dragons. He ends up obtaining a lot of information from Brom such as: “Dragons will only hatch if they are in the presence of a worthy rider” (Paolini 1). Her dragon egg ends up hatching later that night, making it a great example of foreshadowing. This is mere foreshadowing, as it makes it obvious what is going to happen. Paolini mentions: “Thanks to their training, he succeeded, surpassing all others in skill” (1). This shows that Eragon has moved beyond his physical skills and is turning to a more different skill, magic, which takes him some time to learn. This also shows that as Eragon gets stronger, so does Saphira and it's as if they are mirror images of each other.
