Cell phones in classrooms can be a powerful resource for students when used correctly. They can be used as a useful tool or aid. They can also be a major distraction. There are many problems with using cell phones in the classroom, but I believe the good ones outweigh the bad ones. Learning when cell phones are appropriate and when they are not is one of the most important factors in classroom use. Some students don't know when to put their phone away and focus on what the teacher is showing them. Teacher Cyndy Hilby said that "she only uses the phone with her upperclassmen." She goes on to say “they’re mature enough to understand that when we’re done, they need to put their phone away” (Hogan 1). Most people would agree with Cyndy Hilby's statement. Using the phone doesn't seem to bother her, as long as students stay on task and know when it's time to move on. If students do not follow the policy, some teachers may change their phone policy. Some students do not understand what a privilege it is to use such smart devices, this lack of attention could cause them to lose this advantage. “Using the most modern equipment at school has always seemed to be a necessity. Yet the learning process has not really changed, teachers still need to teach students, and students still need to pay attention to teachers” (“don’t” 1). Teachers are there to teach students, students must respect them and their ability to teach. Schools can benefit financially from allowing students to use cell phones. If schools had everything available online, they wouldn't have to pay so much for paper and ink. There would be no library because everything would be online where we could use e-books. There would be no more use of textbooks. E...... middle of paper ...... this problem is to allow students to use their cell phones if they want. This would allow students to have a better overall learning experience as long as their devices do not hinder their learning and teaching abilities.
