Junk food, junk food, junk food is everywhere in schools. Chocolate, cookies, soda, chips and Sour Strings may seem delicious to some people, but are they nutritious? Some wonder if there should be a change. Encouraging exceptional nutrition in schools is essential because students will eat foods that are better for them, schools will pay less for meals, and fewer students will go hungry. Better nutrition in schools is essential because students will eat foods that are better for them. . Research shows that students who eat at school are more likely to achieve a healthy weight than those who bring lunch if the school follows the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). This shows that school lunch is healthier by showing that students who eat at school tend to have a healthier weight if the school follows the school lunch program. The facts are that nutrition is necessary for all life. School meals should contain essential nutrients and be presented in age-appropriate portions, as designed by nutrition professionals (Haugen). Food is important to serve and this shows that schools need to have essential nutrients in their food if they follow this school meal program. If the school follows NSLP guidelines, students who consume lunch benefit from more vegetables, milk and dairy products, as well as meat, than students who do not (Haugen). Statistics show that schools that follow a school lunch program eat healthier. It is important to encourage better nutrition in schools because it will cost schools less. Schools that adhere to the Hunger-Free Kids Act receive an extra six cents for every meal they provide (Hinman).
