The 1960s were a decade of much unhappiness and prosperity. If you remember anything about it, then you weren't part of it; the 1960s, a more popular era known as the sixties. The sixties were a time of great change. People's lifestyle changed completely at the turn of the decade. It was the first decade to be radically different from the last. This is the decade to set the trends for everyone to come. It sparked a broad progressive movement, created distrust across the country, and ultimately a period of innovation that paved the way for the technological age. The United States in the 1960s was a very progressive time for our country; the way people lived there changed drastically and hasn't been the same since. The counterculture of the sixties played a major role in this progressive period; from widespread drug use to the British Invasion of music and, more importantly, feminism. After the Korean War, the CIA discovered information that prisoners were being brainwashed with "truth serum." They acted quickly and started with research on humans; the research was called MKULTRA. They gave LSD and other hallucinogens to their test subjects. Once the research was complete, Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters began doing their own tests; these tests included close friends and family. Popularization came from their acid tests, which involved many more people. Following the new drug scene, he played an important role in music. The sixties transformed classic rock into the new psychedelic rock. This new form of music came out of drug use and people wanting artistic music, as opposed to normal rock. The first great wave of feminism came from the flappers; in the 60s the second wave arrived and it was bigger...... middle of paper ... and paving the way for the progression of the counterculture, it aroused one of the greatest mistrusts to the world, and paved the way for equality for women.
