Essay / Analysis of John Taylor Gatto against the school - 705
I was placed in a school worthy of my educational level, surrounded by students who were neither better nor worse than me. Yet Gatto might disagree by referring to point four of Inglis' breakdown of the "real purpose" of the school system: "...children must be sorted by role and trained only to the extent of their destination in the machine social merit – and not just one. go further. So much for making children their personal best” (3). I have to disagree with the author's perspective on this statement because it was the ideal environment for me to rebuild my confidence in my educational abilities. In addition, thanks to my excellent classes, my teachers saw my abilities and advanced me to a higher level of education. If I hadn't been placed in this educational environment, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have reignited my desire to pursue higher education, give my best, and allow myself to dream.
