  • Essay / Different Perspectives on Bullying - 1807

Everyone has been bullied or met someone who was bullied at some point in their life. Whether physically or verbally, both can be extremely traumatic and have a long-term psychological influence on children's development. The majority of people can define bullying in a more physical term; However, this is not always the case. The act of bullying can occur in many ways and actually affect the individual in the same way. Bullying is generally defined as repeated, negative, harmful actions directed against the target over a period of time, demonstrating a sense of power differential between the bully and the victim (Olweus, 1993; Limber and Mihalic, 1999, cited by Douglas J. Boyle). , 2005). A survey in the United States estimates that more than six million children, approximately 30% in grades six through ten, have been frequently bullied in school (Nansel, 2001, cited by Douglas J. Boyle , 2005). Many people might debate that bullying is something that every child experiences and is simply a part of growing up, even though several harmful consequences occur on the child's brain. Bullying causes the child to feel upset, isolated, afraid, anxious and depressed. They feel like the reason they are being bullied is because there is something wrong with them and may even lose self-confidence, they do not feel safe going to school ( Frenette, 2013, cited by Douglas J. Boyle, 2005). Anthropologically, sociologically or psychologically, harassment can be analyzed from different angles and several questions can be asked depending on the subject:1. Has bullying existed in the past and has it increased or decreased over the past centuries?2. What social factors affect...... middle of paper ...... then conflicts can get out of control, and if bystanders do not speak out and take a stand, bullying will continue to dominate innocent children . You don't have to be a highly educated person to know that bullying is wrong and to stand up, all you need is a heart and a sense of humanity. Works Cited1. Barbara Coloroso. (2002).
