Looking back on my past math teachers, I think it depended on the teacher whether or not I liked math that year. There are many things that make a good math teacher, and I have been fortunate to have some excellent teachers in recent years. A good teacher understands that although students should know how to do something, they may not. Teachers often assume that their students know how to solve a certain equation, for example, but not everyone learns at the same pace. It is also important that a math teacher is able to explain in different ways how to solve a certain math problem. They need to understand that not all students solve a particular problem in the same way. This is one of the reasons why mathematics is difficult: the teacher must also recognize that students understand things differently. Each school year, my overall feeling and perspective toward math changes slightly. Since about fourth grade, when the program started to get a little more difficult, I always felt like good grades came naturally to me. I never had to try hard or study for hours...
