  • Essay / Free College Admissions Essays: The Purpose of Education

When I started working at the age of 16, I just wanted to make money. I never tried to work too hard or improve myself. But throughout my college years, you can see how much I've grown. I learned how to write a good cover letter or how to write a CV. During my studies, I ended up changing jobs several times and each time, I always go back to my notes to write a cover letter and I even use almost the same CV that I wrote during my first year of university. General education courses give you the foundation to succeed in the job market. Especially using the four skills that teachers try to teach us: information management, higher order thinking, valuing and communication. Without these basic skills, we cannot become the best versions of ourselves. I currently use all four skills in my job as a customer service representative. I tend to use all four, even with a single client. I manage the information by listening and taking notes as the client takes it to ensure I understand what they are trying to tell me. I use higher order thinking to come up with a solution on how to solve the problem the customer had a problem with. I compare and contrast the situation with other situations I have faced in the past using my valuation skills. And finally, I communicated with my customer about how I will help them solve their problem.
