Today's organizations need leadership styles conducive to supporting an organization's culture, competitiveness and effectiveness to survive the 21st century. Leadership depth places the task on leaders and managers to understand and respond to employee needs while maintaining strategic goals and missions throughout daily leadership. However, when an organization's culture falters due to various factors, does leadership style bear overall responsibility for internal discord? Contemporary organizations expect advantageous leadership styles to direct and facilitate operations as we move forward into the 21st century. This need requires leaders and organizations to instill an advantageous leadership style to support and direct a culture toward organizational effectiveness and connect to support and enforce organizational strategies. Thus, the success of an organization generally relies on successful leaders who understand and support the needs of employees. Characteristics of successful leaders include altruism, mentoring, empowerment, influence, support, and empathy, among other positive traits (Hoffman, Bynum, Piccolo, & Sutton, 2011; Karakitapoglu-Aygun & Gumusluoglu, 2013; Sabir, Sohail & Khan, 2011; However, as the military and missions continue to evolve, the need for supportive leadership must also change. Leadership styles based on authoritarian leadership are no longer conducive to the overall culture of the Army as the needs of members and the global community begin to evolve.
