    I couldn't believe that the motionless body in front of me was the vibrant, seemingly healthy woman I had seen a few days before. As I mourn her, my determination to specialize in internal medicine is set in stone. The second event was seeing a newborn die from neonatal tetanus. I thought this death would have been avoided with a single injection of tetanus toxoid during prenatal visits. These two incidents convinced me that most preventable deaths could have been avoided through good public health practices or treated with appropriate clinical skills and resources. I therefore set myself the objectives of having expertise in Internal and Public Medicine.
