Essay / We should not change the school calendar - 733
Do you want to go to school this summer? I believe that we should not change the school calendar because it concerns each of you. First, family life is threatened due to year-round schooling. Then, summer vacation turns out to be as valuable as school. Finally, the test results showed little improvement. Next, summer is important for family relationships and traditions. For divorced families, year-round school would make it difficult to reunite. Finally, the traditional school calendar offers many opportunities for family conviviality (Bussard). Although time spent with family is important, so are summer vacations. People believe that summer vacation is as valuable as school. Summer gives children time to mature, relax and have fun (Sardo-Brown). Shorter summer vacations will deprive children of essential learning experiences. Also, people say that when you come back to school in the fall, you forget the things you learned before. Research indicates that the percentage of people who return to middle of paper ...... because they pose a threat to family life, summer vacations are as valuable as school and have little or no positive influence on test results. Remember that 83% of people want to keep the traditional calendar (Sardo-Brown). Summer is important for family relationships and traditions, and year-round school can negatively impact learning (Bussard). I know I don't want to lose my summer vacation, spend less time with my family, and see my test scores drop. Works cited Bussard, Billee. “Summer matters.” School all year round. Np, June 21, 2001.
