    The majority of circumcisions I have participated in have been of consenting adults for medical reasons. After participating in postoperative care, babies and children heal incredibly quickly. Every parent I dealt with was able to manage post-op pain with simple over-the-counter Tylenol. Their children were not slowed down, apparently not bothered by the procedure. Adult circumcision was a completely different story. Every adult circumcision I have been involved in has been performed under general anesthesia, which carries its own risks and was always much more complex than infant/child circumcisions. Much more skin to remove, relatively larger incisions and many more sutures. Grown men were unhappy. They would be prescribed more intense painkillers, usually narcotics. As I also answered the clinic phones, the vast majority of adult patients were calling to refill their pain medications, miss more work, and worry about the appearance of their genitals in terms of swelling or bruises.
