As an article in The World of Psychology shows, Americans began to strive for a slim, masculine physique, compared to the previously ideal appearance of a fuller woman. “In 1975, most models weighed 8% less than the average woman; today, they weigh 23 percent less” (Carolyn, 2015). Additionally, many in today's society now view plus size women as indulgent and lacking in self-control. These women are also often looked down upon because they place so much importance on the issue of body image.
