  • Essay / The importance of cultural assimilation in the modern world...

In the modern world, many people move to a new country and experience a different way of life. Cultural assimilation is the process by which the language and culture of one person or group resembles that of another group. The term is used to refer to both individuals and groups, and in the latter case it can refer to either immigrants or native residents who end up being culturally dominated by another society (Crispino 250). Individuals assimilate into a new culture by following common traditions, beliefs, and daily lifestyles. People assimilate into new cultures when they learn about cultural traditions and general lifestyles, including holidays and food choices. For example, when we see a white family cooking Mexican food after finishing traveling and having fun in one of the most beautiful cities in Morocco, I had to return and stay 15 days in our house that we still own in Casablanca. The two weeks I spent there went very slowly, I was so bored. There was nothing to do and the same people I saw every day were in the same place talking about the same thing; all this is due to the lack of work opportunities. In short, it's a different lifestyle than the one I lived in America: I went to school all day and played school sports, I came home, I did my homework or I worked. I always kept myself busy. However, it made me think: has reality changed, or have I changed because, although I consider myself fifty-fifty, I realized the opposite during my last visit :c I'm the one who's changed, but have I changed? for better or for worse? I don't think adding an extra language and culture to my life or becoming a person with a busy life is a negative consequence.
