Edgar genuinely cares about his daughter and he does his best to be a worthy parent. The only part missing from his parenting is his determination to isolate Cathy within Thrushcross Grange, something Edgar only does out of love for his daughter. He wishes to protect it from the destructive presence of Wuthering Heights and its depraved inhabitants.
