Essay / How to Train Your Dog - 2179
Of course you love your dog, but how do you cope when he has just chewed and destroyed the rug you also love or the cell phone charger you sorely need ? Naturally, you will feel a painful sense of loss for the item that was just destroyed or for the fact that it is such a waste. You might also become frustrated with your pet's bad habits. You might even feel very helpless. Now imagine how you would feel if what your precious dog was chewing on was bad for his health and he started exhibiting digestive or oral problems. So, before you get to this depressing state, it is strongly advised that you start training your dog now to rid him of his incessant chewing of everything he encounters. To achieve this, the first thing to do is to become aware of the main reasons why your pet does this. He may be bored with his mind, lack of exercise, or simply need to burn off excess energy. Therefore, try to play or interact with him more. Also take him for a walk or let him run around your yard for a while and see if he stops chewing constantly or not. If he does, then that's it – more play and exercise is all he needs. If you really don't have time to play more with your canine friend, buy him several toys, especially ones that are designed for him to chew on, like these pseudo-bones. Now, if your dog does not stop his destructive chewing even though you exercise and play with him regularly, this is the time when you need to implement more serious corrective measures. One thing you can do is confine your pet until it can be trusted not to mutilate things in your home. Alternatively, you can slap him on the nose (never go too far) every time he chews something he shouldn't. Accompaniment...... middle of paper ......right in front of you, do not pull on the leash but simply turn around and he will have no choice but to return to your side. If you walk and he stays to your left, be sure to praise him. If he gets the lead, stop with the praise and turn around. Keep doing this until he realizes that he needs to stay close to you. Don't forget to always associate the word "heel" with the fact that it remains on your left side. Once you see that your dog understands exactly what you want him to do, you can start taking longer walks. If he goes off topic, turn around and stop until he realizes his mistake. If he does well, praise him and give him a treat or two. Dog leash training may seem like hard work, because it really is. But be patient because your canine best friend will learn eventually and the benefits you will subsequently reap will surely be rewarding..
