He was the first president to live in the White House and had a son who later became President of the United States, along with a host of other intriguing facts. But before that, Adams was one of the men we still remember and respect today. John Adams was one of the Founding Fathers. Not only did John Adams contribute greatly to achieving independence, but his wife, Abigail Adams, was also a woman longing for freedom and equal rights. The goals and ideas of these two people are why I chose to take a closer look at John Adams. John Adams was born on October 30, 1735, on his family farm in Braintree, Massachusetts. The area where John Adams grew up is about 15 miles south of Boston. His father was a church deacon, but he also took on many other roles in the community, such as a farmer and a shoemaker. (American President: A Reference Resource) Not much is known about John's mother, Susanna Boylston Adams, other than that she had a bad temper. Susanna remarried in 1766 and John did not get along with his new father-in-law. Susanna Adams died in 1797 during the first year of John's presidency. John attended Harvard University for college, but as a boy he much preferred outdoor activities to school. One of his favorite activities was hunting. Even when John Adams was just a boy, his future self would find ways to show itself. Everyone who grew up around John got a taste of his dedication and determination to the causes he cared about. ...... middle of document ...... the diligence and dedication to the cause of liberation, and the deliberate manner in which he used his legal skills are what really made him stand out as a founding father. John and his then future wife, Abigail, were two of the key reasons why the United States of America is as successful as it is today.
