Essay / Apple Case Study - 1230
Background: Apple was introduced by Steve Jobs, entrepreneur, marketer, inventor and technology guru, who in the early 1980s sold his pickup truck to help him to invest in his business which started in his garage. Steve built his first computer for distribution to the general public in 1984, called the 1984 Classic, which seems quite laughable today due to the technological advancements that have occurred since then. Steve's philosophy was to build computers so that consumers could easily navigate using the simplest computer to use and maintain. Since the 1980s, Steve has built rugged, high-tech versions of many different types of computers, evolving with technology over the years. Steve also incorporated many new gadgets alongside the Macintosh computer, such as the iPad, iPhone, iPod, and a music website called iTunes. Today, there are more than 326 stores open to the public around the world. Steve's jobs can be attributed to transforming e-commerce through new technological innovations. Many of these devices and marketplaces make up a lot of e-commerce. The Apple Store opened online in 1997, and within a month the new store received 12 million orders, and in the last quarter its revenue amounted to 28.57 billion. For digital e-commerce, iTunes Music Store online helped set a new standard and was introduced in 2001. By 2010, it sold 10 billion tracks and gained 150 million active credit card accounts. In 2001, the iPod portable media player was introduced and sold 8 million iPods. In 2007, the iPhone was unveiled and sold 20 million iPhones thanks to the new revelation of the “touch screen”. Finally, in 2010, the iPad tablet was introduced and sold 14.8 million in 80 days. These are among Steve Job's many innovations that helped shape an online world...... middle of paper ...... how we use technologies to make our lives easier and who invented electronic devices for the sake of user-friendliness. Without Steve Jobs at the helm, Apple's success is in question, but with the right prototypers, engineers, programmers, and designers, the company's success will continue to flourish. Apple has successfully earned trust and loyalty through its brand, generated billions in revenue, and is one of Forbes magazine's most successful companies. I would recommend that Apple get more involved in the social media craze by using their newly acquired Topsy to gather information that would guide them on how to "increase" sales via social media. As the third wave approaches, Apple must keep up with current trends and innovations to stay above water against its competitors, and even more so now with the absence of Steve Jobs..
