There are several ethical teachings in Christianity and Islam that teach Christians and Muslims how they should act in everyday life. These ethical teachings often require members of each religion to give generously for the welfare of those in need. This essay will prove that both Islam and Christianity have ethical teachings that ask people to give to the needy. This will be proven by first defining what an ethical guideline or teaching is, examining Islamic ethical guidelines that ask Muslims to help those in need, and finally analyzing Christian ethical guidelines that teach Christians to contribute to the well-being of those in need. Ethics is the explicit philosophical reflection on moral beliefs and practices aimed at clarifying what is right and wrong and what human beings should freely do or refrain from doing. Therefore, ethical guidelines are the guidelines established to tell human beings what they should do freely and what they should refrain from, depending on whether it is right or wrong. The ethical guidelines of Christianity teach Christians how they should act so that their daily lives reflect spiritual principles and support the purpose and value of this world. For example, the Ten Commandments were established by God to teach human beings to abstain from such things as theft, murder, and failing to love our neighbor. Islamic ethical guidelines can be found in Islamic law. There are laws about how Muslims should treat each other and how they should behave towards Allah. For example the third pillar of Islam; Zakat teaches Muslims to give their remaining wealth to the poor and needy. This directive was conveyed by Allah to teach Muslims that they should treat the poor and needy with respect and help...... middle of paper ...... welfare to the needy as it teaches that those who give to the needy will be accepted in paradise. Both Islam and Christianity have clear ethical teachings that require Muslims and Christians to contribute to the welfare of those in need. The teachings of Zakat, the sermons of Muhammad, passages from the Quran, and the teaching of jihad inspire all Muslims to give their extra wealth to those in need. Bible passages concerning the poor teach Christians to also give money to the needy. These teachings are invaluable for the Islamic and Christian society because through these teachings, Muslims and Christians give more money to the poor and thus through these teachings the poor in the Islamic and Christian society are better supported.
